I AM SIMPLY A HUMAN

I am simply a human being.
I was born in Cyprus.
I know, I am a Turk.
But Cyprus, Greek and Turk, too,
Are parts of a universal whole.
So, the world is my motherland.
The world is my university.
The world is my temple.
And the entire human race is my real family
Whether in India, in China or in Africa
Every human being that I see
Is my brother or sister.
If I encounter in the street
An Eskimo or a Red Indian
All the doors of my heart become wide-open to them
With a genuine feeling superior to love and respect
Laying down and stretching all my antennae
All over the world.
I am that radio-telescope and giant radars complex
Which listens to the heart beatings of
Five billion people
And which transmit them to other worlds.
I am simply a human being.
My hands, which embrace the entire universe
Become clenched fists against
Retrogration and fanaticism
For, from now and on
Like the River Ganges which flows
Into the Indian Ocean
I shall begin flowing in ocean of
Brotherhood and peace
In the twenty-first Century...
