PATRIOT'S LAMENT

I love thee my country
On whose fields I lay and dreamed
Gazing at starry skies, buoyed with hope
Promises to protect your honour, or so it seemed
Invidious enemies about to grope
My love for thee I did not brag
Wrapped in your gold embroidered flag
I took my scythe sharp with glint
Full of furore, fire to the foe
There I saw palm trees, luscious
Flowers and more
Dandelions and dahlias smiled at me
Breathing life into my soulless core
Steel melting scythe no more
I loved thee my country
Until you made me hate
With your stinging embrace
Duplicitous with venom
Leave me wallow and drown in my tears
Now forsaken spinster, full of spite
Seated merrily on your throne assured
Sinful colossus of hopes abjured
O mighty nation soaring high above
Full of pride, empty of love
Smiting lambs with your scorn
Vendor of noble dreams torn
I loved thee my country
