THE UNKNOWN SOLDIER

Alone in his despair,
He took one last glance.
His heart beat quickly now,
Death had come to dance his dance.

He took out of his coat,
The picture of his girl.
The woman that he loved,
She was his whole world.

His heart crumpled stricken,
He said, "I love you, Dear."
He stepped out of the trench,
He stepped into the clear.

The shots rang out around him,
Burst the heart within.
Tore his feelings open,
And then he died again.

They only found his body,
Ravaged by the war.
They knew it wasn't fate,
He'd everything to live for.

So they placed him in a tomb,
Except there was no name.
He was an unknown soldier,
His death brought him no fame.
